Ord Mantell

Region: Mid Rim

Sector: Bright Jewel Sector

System: Ord Mantell system

Established around 12,000 BBY by Corellian settlers as an Ordnance/Regional Depot for the expanding Galactic Republic, Ord Mantell has long since abandoned its military origins to become the galaxy's most notorious shadowport. As the planet's strategic importance waned over the millennia, an increasing tide of smugglers, tax evaders, and black marketeers transformed its culture into one defined by criminal enterprise and fierce independence. By 1 ABY, the mountainous world has fallen on hard times under Imperial rule, its inhabitants working jobs where no questions are asked. Black Sun maintains a significant presence in the Bright Jewel system, using the Darkveil Eclipse as a central hub for their operations, while bounty hunters prowl the streets seeking lucrative targets. The planet's pink-hued clouds, caused by its thick atmosphere, shroud a world of arid equatorial continents dotted with mountain chains where four billion inhabitants representing countless species coexist, with no single species comprising more than five percent of the population.

The capital city of Worlport sprawls along the Coral Coast with its distinctive Corellian architecture—round domes, elaborate facades, and ornate spires rising above three major gambling districts that surround the Morro Spaceport. The Path of Coins, stretching from Government Circle to the spaceport's main gate, hosts elite resort-casinos like Lady Fate and Mugwaar's Palace that bustle with activity at all hours, while Herglic's Folly offers a more dangerous experience with minimal security and frequent brawls. Each private business employs its own security force in place of a citywide patrol, creating an atmosphere where law and order exist only through a delicate balance of corporate power and underworld influence. North of Worlport lies the Scraplands, a vast poisonous wasteland of junkyards and strip mines where breath masks are mandatory and towering heaps of refuse collapse in unpredictable "scrapslides." At its heart sits Ten Mile Plateau, an uncanny oasis where native Mantellian Savrips and pterosaurs dwell among the wreckage—a place where fortunes can be made or lost, and where the desperate go to disappear.
